Fast Storage Smart Link” Food Stereoscopic Warehouse—Mother-Child Cart-Linked 18,000-Position High-Density Automated Storage Project

A well-known domestic casual food group, covering offline supermarkets and e-commerce omni-channels, specializing in puffed foods and baked snacks with annual sales of over 800 million yuan, needs to build a mother-child cart stereoscopic warehouse system to solve the high-density storage and efficient turnover challenges of multi-SKU foods.

Fast Storage Smart Link” Food Stereoscopic Warehouse—Mother-Child Cart-Linked 18,000-Position High-Density Automated Storage Project
Project Value
  1. Space expansion: 18,000 positions achieve 82% space utilization, 110% higher than traditional flat warehouses, covering full-category food storage.

  2. Efficiency leap: Fully automated access replaces manual work, increasing order processing capacity to 5,000 orders/day, with a peak of 12,000 orders during promotions.

  3. Risk reduction: Intelligent shelf-life control reduces food expiration loss rate from 3% to 0.5%, and misdelivery rate to below 0.02%.

Project Background

The existing warehousing is a common flat warehouse with over 300 food SKUs, a position utilization rate of less than 40%, and a daily manual sorting capacity of only 1,500 orders, which cannot meet the 10,000+ order demand during e-commerce promotions; meanwhile, food has a short shelf life, and manual shelf-life management is prone to errors, so a mother-child cart automated system is urgently needed to realize high-density storage and intelligent control.

Solution
  1. Equipment adaptation: The mother-child cart is equipped with adjustable adaptive forks, compatible with bagged and carton-packed food access, and equipped with anti-offset positioning devices to ensure stability.

  2. Movement line scheduling: Adopt WMS system to link the mother-child cart, dynamically plan operation paths, achieve an hourly access efficiency of over 120 pallets in a single aisle, and avoid aisle congestion.

  3. Intelligent control: Shelf positions are bound to shelf-life data, the system information is updated synchronously when the mother-child cart accesses, and priority outbound reminders for goods approaching expiration are automatically triggered.

Project Difficulties
  1. Food packaging specifications are diverse (bagged/carton-packed), so the mother-child cart needs to adapt to stable access of different forms of goods.

  2. Under 18,000 high-density positions, the efficiency of mother-child cart aisle passing and position docking is prone to congestion.

  3. Food has strict shelf-life requirements, so intelligent association between position storage and shelf-life data needs to be realized simultaneously.
